Exploding e cigarette batteries, who’s fault is it?

Since the introduction of e-cigarettes in 2007, there have been countless incidents where batteries or mods have exploded due to being placed in confined areas—such as a pocket or luggage. But who is really to blame for these exploding devices. The retailer? the manufacture? maybe even, the customer?

Spoiler alert: its all of them.

Most recently, an incident has occurred in Casper, Wyoming, where a man’s e-cigarette battery exploded in his pocket, causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his legs and genitals. Now, the man and his wife are suing the local vape shop which sold them the device—but is this really a legitimate action? We believe it is.

Since there are limited regulations in China when it comes to the manufacturing of anything, it is the responsibility of the seller—in this case, being the vape shop—to research for safety before selling anything that might be defective to their customers.

Majority of the vaping retailers—both online and local shops—are simply out to make a quick buck in this booming sector, even if its in an unethical manner. This means they will purchase the cheapest devices possible, in order to achieve a maximum return on their investment, and while doing so, they’re neglecting the customer’s safety and well-being. This is sad, but it’s the reality of the world we live in.

With that being said, it’s also the customers responsibility to do their own due diligence when taking part in such a new and unstudied activity. This can be done by visiting sites like ours, to see if any issues did occur after weeks of testing. Also, only purchasing devices from reputable companies—such as Aspire and KangerTech—could also radically reduce any issues—such as exploding batteries.

Ultimately, the best remedy would be for more American based manufactures to develop vaping/e cigarette products, using complete and proper testing methods to ensure there are no defects before shipping it to the masses.
