Why the Atlantis 2 sucks!

Look else where if you want a good sub-ohm tank.

The Atlantis was Aspire’s first attempt at a sub-ohm tank, and due to the limited competition at the time, the tank quickly became a success. But now with sub-ohm tanks being offered from a variety of different manufacturers, it seems as if the Atlantis has fallen way behind. We will be going over 4 reasons why the Atlantis 2 is no better than the Atlantis 1, as well as why you should look else where when purchasing a sub-ohm tank.

1. Build Quality

The build quality of the Atlantis 2 may seem “okay” at the first glance, but looking closer, you start to notice a lot of components and design decisions which make no sense. Firstly, the exterior’s design is not bad—we actually like it— the simplicity give it this modern and sharp look. But once looking inside the glass tube this is where the problems start to arise.

It all begins with this white piece of rubber or plastic inside the base of the glass tube— which is intended to act as a sealant for the tank to prevent leaking, and one would ask—”why is it so big?”, well because the Atlantis 2 tank has no dedicated threading.

This brings us to the next problem, the Atlantis 2 uses it’s coil design as it’s only means of holding the entire tank together. The only threading connecting the bottom and top of the tank are those found on the coil. This concept seems idiotic—why would one make the main construction of the tank something the user has to replace every couple of weeks. And its not as if the design of this coil is that outstanding that one could be okay with it— it’s extremely poor.

This time around, Aspire has included an extra glass tube in the box, but good luck getting the old one out; its held together with just compressed metal, no o-ring or washer, just simply metal on glass—good thinking Aspire.

2. The Coil

The BVC coil Aspire had designed for it’s non-sub-ohm tanks was great; but applying this same concept to the Atlantis was not such a great idea—these particular vertical coils don’t work well in confined areas when running at such hot temperatures. Maybe they should take note from the Arctic’s BVC coil design—it held up at almost every temperature.

When using the .3 ohm coil which was pre-installed in the tank, I actually received a slight burn on my hand due to the temperature of the tank getting extremely hot. Likewise, the .5 ohm included also had gotten extremely hot, but not to the extent in which I was burning my hand.

3. Vaping Experience

The vaping experience of the Atlantis 2 was the worst of any tank we have tested—we mean it was offal.

The amount of spit back one receives is so bad that we had to stop vaping after a couple hours of use—hot propylene glycol hitting the back of the throat is not exactly something one wants when vaping. We experienced this spit back with both the .3 and .5 coils, and we could not find anyway to resolve this issue.

The flavor was either nonexistent or extremely muted—we tried a variety of different e-liquids, all with different PG/VG ratios.

The Vapor production was good, but the other two issues prevented us from enjoying the one positive attribute of the tank.

4. The Drip Tip

This thing is huge! The size of the drip tip on the Atlantis 2 is way beyond the size any human being needs, and simply is another reason why we really dislike this tank.

As for the top adjustable airflow, we found it extremely pointless—it has no definitive purpose, we adjusted it in every way possible, and still could not find any added benefit from using it.

Overall, if you are in the market for a sub-ohm tank, we highly suggest you look else where. As of now, the best sub-ohm tank is offered by KangerTech—the Subtank Mini. This may change with time as we have a few other tanks to review—such as Horizon’s Arctic, which should be released soon, so stay tuned for that.
