When it comes to sub-ohm tanks there are many options to choose from—such as Horizon’s Arctic, Heracles, and Aspires’s Atlantis to name a few—but when looking for a sub-ohm tank that is truly versatile, the Subtank is undoubtedly the winner; more specifically, the Subtank Mini. The Subtank Mini offers every option one can want in a tank—such as a RBA, sub-ohm coils, non-sub-ohm coils, adjustable air-flow, and the list goes on. It’s not only that Kangertech added all these wonderful features, but they mastered them as well.
Body and Design
Firstly, the body and design of the Subtank Mini is truly a work of art. The entire housing is composed of high-grade stainless steel which gives the Subtank this industrial and modern look. The subtle KangerTech logo and visible red o-rings complete this sleekness by branding it a Subtank— all of which truly distinguish it from other tanks on the market.
As for the internal build, it’s just as well-made, if not better than the exterior. This is mostly due to it’s excellent threading; the machineing work is so well done that each component screws together as if it were magnetic.
The Subtank mini features a high-quality, pyrex 4.5 ml glass tube, which ensures the user it won’t be easily scratched or cracked. But if an accident does occur, KangerTech, has kindly included a replacement in the box, which is of the same quality.
Filling the tank is also a joy, due to the spacing between the center chimney and glass tube being the perfect size to fit a dripper.
We have been using the Subtank Mini for a couple weeks now, and have dropped it 3 times; but yet, the tank is still in the same condition as when we received it. This Subtank Mini will definitely survive everyday use without any issues.
Drip tip
The drip-tip is also another excellent feature of this tank, due to it being the perfect size for the dimensions, and should be adequate for most users. But because the fitting is standard 510, it is easily interchangeable with any aftermarket drip tip that is currently available.
No adapter is necessary—and yes, we are talking to you Aspire.
Adjustable Air-Flow
The adjustable air-flow featured on the Mini is the best of any tank on the market. It features a two sided air-flow with 3 settings-open, a small air-hole, and a big air hole—all of which lock securely in place with an excellent mechanism that offers a satisfying clicking noise with each setting.
As for the actual air output, it does lack when compared to other tanks—even the nano tends to provide more air, and it only has a one sided air-flow option.
OCC Coil
The Stock OCC coil for the Subtank has an innovative design that trumps all other coils on the market— it’s blocked shape is not only attractive, but highly functional as well, due to it being extremely easy to install and prime.
The sizings offered are 1.2 ohm and .5 ohm:
The .5 ohm coil enables the user to have a sub-ohm experience without the need of building, by providing both exceptional flavor and vapor. When testing the .5 ohm, each vape was extremely smooth when staying below 25 Watts; anything above 25 watts started to become burnt, and at 30 watts it was extremely burnt.
As for the 1.2 ohm coil, it allows the user to experience excellent flavor, but without the huge clouds which come along with sub-ohming. In our testing we felt the ideal level for the 1.2 ohm was around 14 to 16 watts, but this particular coil did provide better flavor than the .5 ohm.
We didn’t experience any major spit back with the OCC coils, and with light flavored juices they will last a couple of weeks before needing to be changed.
RBA
The RBA option that comes included with the Subtank Mini is pretty awesome, especially for a freebie. It includes almost everything one would need to start building —minus the wiring, and it is an excellent option for those just learning to build.
We have used the RBA with the pre-made coils which came in the packaging, and the flavor and vapor production was quite impressive; it actually provided slightly better flavor than the stock OCC .5 ohm coil. But we did notice when it comes to installing the cotton, less is more; too much cotton will result in major spit back, so don’t over do it.
Overall Vaping Experience
The availability to choose from all the different coil options made this tank never get boring or old. Whenever one feels like they want to experience something different, all they simply have to do is swap out the coil, and you literally have a new tank and a new experience— you really can’t beat that.
Final thoughts
The Subtank Mini is like the swiss army knife of sub-ohm tanks, and it’s endless vaping options proves this to be true. We strongly believe this tank is worth every penny, and it’s something every vapor should own simply due to it’s tremendous value. Even beginners who are not well experienced with sub-ohming should give it a shot, because it is future proof as they progress in their vaping career. Overall, we have an endless amount of good things to say about this tank and very few bad; so if you are in the market for a new tank then the Subtank Mini is definitely something you should check out—you won’t be disappointed.
